MVP

Omari Lawrence 6’2 Guard (Long Island Lightning)-Lawrence took home the MVP honors because he brings so much to the table. The south paw dished out 8 assists and did an adequate job on the boards. The Lightning used Omari’s size to break the Newark press and he either scored with a strong lay up or hit cutting teammates. He is very fluid with the rock and always keeps his teammates involved. He now has earned a Metro Hoops nickname, Omari Lawrence aka “O” Smooth.

Other Top Championship Game Performers

Brian Wilson 6’4 Forward (Long Island Lightning)-Lawrence racked up most of his assist feeding Wilson when the defense collapsed. Wilson proved to be the correct option by scoring at will on the blocks. Last season he bounced around a little on the 14 and under circuit. Hopefully he’s happy with this bunch because he fits in well.

Gamel Mohammed 5’10 Guard (Surprise Athletics)

Gamel Mohammed 5’10 Guard (Surprise Athletics)-Mohammed made over 100 treys during his high school season and I could see why. His form and release is text book and fluid but more importantly his confidence is soaring. Gamel is not lightning quick but he gets to the cup because defenders have to respect his jumper which gives him a chance to up fake and dribble drive.

Demetrius Smith 6’0 Guard (Surprise Athletics)-This is my first time watching Smith since our fall showcase. He has gotten a lot stronger and confident with the rock. He can score the ball or run the show upon request. This kid has the chance to be very dangerous in a short amount of time. Keep you eye out for him.
