On June 2nd at Rutgers University in Piscataway, some of the top freshman in New Jersey got together to display their talents at the Metro Hoops Freshman Showcase!

Many of the top freshman where in attendance, such as 6-7 John Oates from Don Bosco, 6-0 Freshman of the year Devon Moffatt, 6-1 Bloomfield Tech's Courtney Nelson, Bloomfield Tech's Dashawn Dwight, and 6-2 Sharp Shooter Clifton's Jason Cameron.

Drills and stations were held throughout the day, as well as talks from William Paterson Coach Jose Rebimbas and Strength and Conditioning Coach Matt Hoyle.

Yo there was not a scrub in the house,  all these kids could play,  as a matter of fact all of the games where very competitive.  There was an array of other notable freshman in the house - Rutgers Prep Josh Jones, St. Patrick's Desmond Sanders, Seton Hall Prep 6-5 Mark Aziz, Plainfield's 6-0 Mike Gordon, and Jackson's Ryan, Mogila.

Who Did Work!

6-7 John Oates - At 6-7 John is steadily becoming a solid player.  He has some good hands and decent range from the outside.  Many where impressed with how fluent he looked on the court. He has a good understanding of the game.  Watch out New Jersey?  John will be a force to deal with over the next three years, especially as he becomes stronger.  We like his game.

6-0 Devon Moffatt -  Although he was playing at about the 60% because of a severely sore right knee, he showed how he accumulated over 500+ points this year  as a freshman, with an array of acrobatic moves.  He also made it to the finals of the Dunk Contest with a great one hand leaning dunk before retiring from the contest because of  his knee.

6-0 Jason Cameron - Yo!  the kid can flat-out shoot the ball.  Jason hit 15 three pointers throughout the course of the day.  He's the real deal.  Jason has a nice touch from the outside, good passer, and he's a real competitor.  He's not just a set shooter, Jason can jay you up off the dribble.

6-0 Desmond Sanders - Des can play,  at the point guard spot Des was a little general out there!  He at times flat-out dominated this event.  Tenuous defender, and competitor, he played hard every game even though winning the games meant nothing.  Nice handle, good passer, and excellent defensive player.  Desmond should see some time next year a St. Patrick's.

6-0 Dashawn Dwight - He's the real deal.  This combo guard can hit you up taking you to the basket, or pulling up off the dribble for a three.  Did his thing this weekend!  Not only is he a great offensive player, but he was one of the best defensive players in camp this weekend

Dashawn Dwight

6-0 Courtney Nelson - Courtney's he is the truth,  he mesmerized coaches and players alike with some great passes and explosive moves all day.  Courtney sees the game a couple steps faster than most freshman.  He's the real deal!  Bloomfield Tech should win a few games next year.

Surprises

Jonathan Hart

6-0 Jonathan Hart - Yo he was the talk of the camp this kid has major hops.  He was tossing shots all day long.  At 6-3 and long arms Jason plays above the Rim.  He won the Dunk Contest with spectacular Dunk, he jumped over Plainfield High  5-6 Mike Gordon and finished with a sweet one hand dunk.  It was no doubt who won the dunk contest after that.  This kids has skills.  He's a great athlete.

5-8 Ryan Mogilia - Yo little man can play.  the point guard was setting up his wing players nice.  He definitely has some skills.

6-4 Jordan Fowler -  The Montclair freshman did his thing this weekend.  He has some serious range on his jump shot.  And at 6-4, 190 he has the body to take the ball to the rack with reckless abandon.  Not bad for a guy who has not played ball in two months.

Best of the Rest

6-0 Mike Gordon - Plainfield

6-1 Jacob Podhurst - Seton Hall Prep

6-2 Walter Roberson - Freehold Township High School

8th Graders

There where a few 8th graders in the house as well who did work!

6-0 Andrew Pusar - Seton Hall Prep bound 8th grader showed why he may be considered best 8th grader in New Jersey!

6-3 Brian Lytle - Another Seton Hall Prep Bound 8th grader.  He was rebounding, and posting up like a beast.  He's tough.

6-4 Brandon Payne - The St. Patrick's bound 8th grader can play.  Can play position 2-4 easily. Brandon plays like he has already played a year of high school ball.

Jacob Podhurst

At the conclusion of the day, a 3 points hooting contest and slam dunk contest were held. 6'0" Seton Hall Prep Fr. Jacob Podhurst (pictured in white) won the 3 point shooting contest. 6'4" Roselle Fr. Jonathan Hart won the Slam Dunk contest in a resounding fashion.

Top freshman get together after camp

This year we had some serious players at this event,  every game was competitive and worth watching.  Hey we would like to give a special shout-out to all of the players that attended the camp - "Yo, great Camp!  You guys were great!"
