Ashton Gibbs
6’2 So. Guard (Seton Hall Prep)

By Mike Melton
Date: March 7th, 2006
After trailing by 8 points at
intermission (24-16) Seton Hall Prep came back to beat
Immaculata 63-47 and advance to the Parochial A Finals
Saturday against CBA at the Ritacco Center in Toms
River. Ashton Gibbs led the Pirates with 19 points with
teammates Mike Owczarek and Gary Wallace helped the
cause by splitting 23 markers. Will Manhart scored 13
points for Immaculata in the loss.
Spotlight Players
Ashton Gibbs 6’2 So. Guard (Seton Hall Prep)-
Gibbs couldn’t find the mark from the perimeter early on
so he attacked the basket and earned his points from lay
ups and free throws (8). The cool and calm sophomore has
quietly led his team back to the title game amidst the
doubters. He needs one more big performance to bring the
trophy back home.
Gerald Wallace 6’2 Jr. Guard
(Seton Hall Prep)- Wallace calmed the Pirates
while the young phenom (Gibbs) found his range. He ran
the offense efficiently in the second half and converted
some tough baskets in transition. He has little flair in
his game but enough substance to get the job done.
Will Manhart 6’2 Jr. Guard (Immaculata)-
The Spartans made it interesting early behind the hot
hand of Manhart. He scored well in the offense and
showed the ability to stroke it from the perimeter. He
ran out of gas during the final period.
Final Word “Championship
Patience”
Immaculata seemed to have the Pirates on the ropes at
the half but Seton Hall didn’t panic. Instead the
Pirates adjusted on offense as their defense begun to
wear Immaculata down. When Gibbs and company took their
first lead they smelled blood they attacked and laid the
opposition to rest.
