RJ Evans 61 Guard
(Connecticut Young Gunz))
By Mike Melton
Date: April 4th, 2006
The Playaz Basketball Club Spring Fling 16U Division
also had its share of talented players and teams. Here
is a breakdown of the few ballers that we felt handled
their business this weekend.
Top
Performers 16 and Under Division (Not Mentioned In
Championship Story)
Jiovanny Fontan 59 Guard
(Playaz)- Fontan played with tremendous
confidence this weekend and look for his own shot more
often then usual. He ran the point efficiently and
showed true courage playing most of the weekend with an
injured foot.
Ivy Fisher 56 Guard (Long Island Lightning)-Coreys
little brother established his own identity this weekend
by attacking defenses and scoring with high quality
floaters. Hes very quick attacking the gaps and
extremely athletic for his size.
Desmond Wade 59 Guard (NJ
Shoreshots)-The Shoreshots had a successful
opening night because of the guard play of Desmond. He
was a relentless ball hound on defense and his change of
direction on offense separates him from some peers.
Mike Burwell 64 Forward (NJ
Shoreshots)-The more aggressive Burwell
becomes the better prospect the Shoreshots will have.
Standing 64 Burwell can pass or shot over most
defenders and rebound the ball if necessary. If he
attacks the basket more and starts to play over the rim
his stock will improve immensely.
RJ Evans 61 Guard (Connecticut
Young Gunz)-Chris Prescott has some company
in Connecticuts 2008 Class with Evans. RJ put up big
time scoring numbers in each Spring Fling game. His mid
range jumper is soft and he can pull up at any point of
his dribble penetration. Once he gets going buckets come
in abundance.
Quintrell Thomas 67 Forward
(Team NJ Elite)-Thomas is slowly becoming one
of the best big men in the region. He gets up high on
rebounds and has begun to put some offensive moves
together. Right now hes very hungry for success and if
he keeps this attitude look out.
Austin Johnson 66 Forward (Playaz)-Johnson
has future wing player written all over him. It just
depends on if he is willing the put the proper work in.
Right now he is too quick for most post players and uses
his long arms to get put backs.
Travon Woodall 511 Guard
(Playaz)- The St. Anthony point guard wasnt
hitting from the outside but was able to score in
transition and played lock down defense the full 94
feet. It will only be a matter of time before he gets
his shooting rhythm back.
Jordan Theodore 511 Guard
(Gauchos)- Theodore played the true point
guard role early in the tournament. He used his quick
dribble and crossover to get past defenders and drive,
draw and dish to teammates. When he is under control
hes very potent.
Courtney Stanley 61 Guard
(Reebok Raiders)- Stanley was able to get off
a little during pool play but didnt get enough help
from his teammates to advance. He is a strong guard and
a jumper to match.
Spring Fling All Tournament
MVP- Lamont Jones (Metro Hawks)
James Southerland (Metro Hawks)
Trinity Fields (Metro Hawks)
Brandon Romain (Metro Hawks)
Darryl Bryant (Gauchos)
Curtis Loving (Gauchos)
Durand Scott (Gauchos)
Jiovanny Fontan (Playaz)
Travon Woodall (Playaz)
Austin Johnson (Playaz)
RJ Evans (Connecticut Young Gunz)
Quintrell Thomas (Team NJ Elite)
Brian Oliver (Playaz 15s)
