In a classic defensive masterpiece St. Anthony outlasted Linden 51-47 last night at Golden Door Charter School. David Bullock led the Friars attack with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Fellow senior Giovanni Carenza chipped in 14 points and 7 caroms for the winners. LJ McGhee and Darryl Lampley combined for 20 markers for the Tigers in the loss.

Spotlight Players

David Bullock 63 Sr. Guard (St. Anthony)-
The senior is the utility player for the Friars. In the first quarter alone he filled up the scoring column while hitting the boards and recording a few steals. All of his offensive production came from David driving to the basket. He bounced off defenders like a pin-ball but had enough body control to convert.

Giovanni Carenza 68 Sr. Forward (St. Anthony)- Carenza is the only inside force for the young Friars. He blocked shots like a beast in the first half and will nail a 10 footer all day. He held his own against the tough frontline.

LJ McGhee 61 Sr. Guard (Linden)- McGhee was playing for redemption, last year he broke his foot while playing St. Anthonys. He really got after the ball on defense by playing the passing lanes and pressuring the rock. He showed his athleticism on dribble drives and fast break finishes.

Desmond Wade 59 So. Guard (Linden)- Wade spent the first half driving and dishing but his big men couldnt convert the deliveries. In the second stanza Wade decided to score the buckets himself but couldnt find the bottom of the hole. He did is usual on defense by making the Friar guards work to run the offense.

Final Word Lindens Make up

The Tigers are one of the best defensive teams Ive seen in a while especially being a public school. They rotate well and give an all out effort all night. They came up short in the contest because they have not identified a true scorer from their bunch. LJ McGhee and Desmond Wade can score but McGhee is defensive minded and Wade looks better as a true point. The guy that must fill this role is Lakewood transfer Jerry Jones. Late in the contest Jones made a couple of moves that displayed flashes of what he could accomplish. He has a decent stroke and is strong enough to score in traffic.
