Team Final 109 – Playaz 102

 Team Final:

Prime Time Performers:

Tyreke Evans – 6-4 shooting guard American Christian (junior) – Evans started off the game hitting back to back three pointers. After a big first half Evans found himself being double teamed for the remainder of the game. Every time Evans stepped within three point range two Playaz defenders swarmed him. At first Evans rushed a few shots but settled down and distributed the ball to set up his teammates for open looks.

Ramone Moore – 6-5 shooting guard South Philadelphia High (senior) – Moore a shooting guard from South Philadelphia High School is the silent assassin for Team Final, while Evans gains most of the attention Moore gets many open jump shots which causes all types of problems for defenses. Moore has a sweet jump shot and nice size for a guard which could help him succeed on the next level. It looks like Moore will do a year of Prep School at American Christian next fall before he enrolls at Temple University.

 Playaz

Prime Time Performers:

Austin Johnson – 6-7 power forward Cheltenham (junior) – Johnson was the one guy that caused match up problems for Team Final. Johnson rebounded well, and scored on a few nice post moves, he even showed range as he hit a deep two pointer. If Johnson can add a consistent mid range jumper to his game he will be almost impossible for defenders to cover. Johnson will reclassify as a junior next season at Blair Academy. I believe this will work out for Johnson as he will get another year to help his overall game. He is already gaining attention from Rutgers, Temple, LaSalle, Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College and University of Virginia. .

Gio Fontan (junior) – Fontan was nothing but stellar in the loss; he played great defense, penetrated, and hit the outside shot.  Fontan is an ideal point guard as he does whatever is needed for his team to succeed, he has a solid overall game and high basketball IQ which make him valuable to any team that he plays for. Fontan will play his college ball at Fordham University.

Positive Image 91 – Mainstreet 85

 Positive Image

Prime Time Performers:

Courtney Stanley – 6-1 shooting guard Roman Catholic (junior) – Stanley looks like a totally different player for Positive Image compared to Roman Catholic. During the high school season it looked like Stanley was still adjusting to his new role at Roman Catholic. With Positive Image Stanley is more of a scorer and a go to guy rather then a role player and defender. Stanley connected on a pair of three pointers and ran the court well leading to many fast break opportunities. He has had a huge tournament so far as he is averaging around 22 points per game.

Kashief Edwards – 6-6 small forward Imhotep Charter (senior) – The Niagara University bound Edwards had a big second half to help his defeat Mainstreet. Edwards is a strong finisher when he gets the ball in the low post and has a good feel for the game. Mainstreet had a tough time covering Edwards down low as he threw down a few dunks, Edwards scored 11 second half points.

Mainstreet

Karon Burton – 5-8 point guard Chester (junior) – The always exciting Karon Burton did his usual as he wowed the crowd with his crafty ball handling skills. Burton may be the most exciting player to watch in the state of Pennsylvania. Even though he only stands at 5’8 Burton has one of the biggest hearts on the court; when he’s feeling it there isn’t too many players that can stop him from scoring as he can either drive by defenders or step back and hit the long ball.
