The summer workouts with NBA Hall-of Famer George Gervin
has really paid-off for 6-5
Half-Hallows freshman shooting guard Tobias Harris. Gervin, who's a close
family friend has been working with Tobias in the summer the past 3 years.
"George really helped me with my balance while shooting, and improving my
follow-through on the each shot" said Tobias. Harris spends two weeks in San Antonio every summer with
Gervin.
As freshman Harris put-up big numbers leading his team in
scoring averaging 21.2
points, and 7 rebounds per contest. ""Tobias is going to be a be a prolific
scorer" said George Gervin. "He can put up big numbers without dominating ball.
He scores within the flow of the game."
Tobias is the purest outside shooter in the metro area in
the class of 2010. Harris's shot is automatic from 15 to 18 feet. The
scary thing is that he's a 6-5 freshman, and he's still growing. Tobias size gives him the ability to shoot over smaller
guards, and allows him to take smaller guards to the hoop. Tobias biggest
improvement as player is his ability to slash to the basket, and get to the rim.
"I'm being more aggressive attacking the rim." said Harris. "I want want
to keep defenders off balance. I'm more than just a shooter".
"I'm working on getting stronger, and quicker" added
Harris. "I'll need to make improvements in both of these areas if I am to
be successful at the next level.".
Although Half Hallows West High School is not known
for being a basketball powerhouse, Harris is garnering interest from
several Big East, ACC and
Big 10 schools, such as
Indiana, Virginia
Tech, St. John's,
and Rutgers.
This spring and summer Tobias will be playing on the AAU
circuit with the 16/17U Unique-All-stars.
